Position: Senior Manager for Risk, Legal                     

Reports to: General Counsel, Legal                     

Scope: CIPE is seeking a full-time, exempt position based in Washington, D.C. for a Senior Manager for Risk. The Senior Manager for Risk will work with the General Counsel and Risk Officer to develop a comprehensive enterprise Risk Management (RM) framework and coordinate the adoption and implementation of organization-wide risk management strategies. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this position will be responsible for working directly with organization-wide functions and programs to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks that could impact CIPE’s operations, finances, and reputation.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Work with General Counsel and Risk Officer to develop strategies to maintain a proactive risk management culture in the institution. 

  • Collaborate with department heads to design and implement risk controls and procedures. 

  • Collaborate with all CIPE departments to develop risk assessment methodologies and models to forecast potential and assess potential risks and mitigation strategies in functions, operations, and potential programmatic activities.  

  • Coordinate cross-functional risk assessment processes to develop and maintain key risk indicators and an operational framework for CIPE. 

  • Lead internal cross-functional working groups established to address high risk operations, projects, or functions as needed. 

  • Collaborate with Senior Manager for Compliance to evaluate and identify effectiveness and adequacy of CIPE’s processes, policies and procedures to effectively communicate risks, priorities, and necessary actions for remediation. 

  • Lead the identification, communication, measurement, and management of organization-wide risks and oversee internal risk assessments at function and programmatic levels.  

  • Provide guidance and training to promote risk control awareness, ownership, and accountability. 

  • Support enterprise risk reporting requirements for Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors. 

  • Develop, maintain, and implement business continuity plans for CIPE. 

  • Develop contingency plans to deal with organizational emergencies. 

  • Work with General Counsel to investigate and address incidents of potential fraud or other misconduct consistent with CIPE policies and procedures.  

  • Occasional travel to conduct field assessments of risk and compliance functions as needed. 

  • Other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in one the following fields is required: Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.  

  • Master’s degree, or the equivalent experience in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.  

  • 8 plus years’ experience in nonprofits.  

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and partners. 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, establish, and maintain good relationships with international partners, donors, and colleagues.  

  • Experience with international development and topics consistent with CIPE’s mission, including anti-corruption and business ethics, democratic governance, business association advocacy, entrepreneurship and others.  

  • Demonstrated strong critical thinking and analytical skills.  

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment, as well as independently with minimum supervision; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.  

  • Demonstrated project management in NGOs.  

  • Proficiency in MS-Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  

  • High degree of culture competence.
