Intern, Egypt/ MENA Regional
Description: CIPE’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team is committed to supporting democratic and market reform-oriented civil society actors across the region to play a leading role in building democratic institutions. The intern will be responsible for assisting the CIPE MENA team in researching current events related to the economy, entrepreneurship, and democracy in the MENA region, conducting open-source research to inform future programming, and advancing the MENA department’s external communications.
Learning Objectives:
Learn about CIPE’s MENA programs through direct participation.
Gain insight into the field of international development and democracy, nonprofit management, and the various topics pertaining to CIPE’s work.
Enhanced research, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Exposure to project management, including productivity tools, project monitoring, and reporting
Develop communications and social media expertise.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Assist the Middle East and North Africa team in monitoring and tracking political and economic developments in the region, including relevant legislation and current events, and write weekly news digests for program staff.
Contribute to department’s communication initiatives, including blog posts, social media, and website management, with oversight from Associate Program Officers and Program Associates.
Conduct research related to CIPE program areas in the MENA region, depending on the intern’s interests.
Attend webinars and online events related to inclusivity, challenges to democracy, and other developments in the region
Participate in weekly MENA team meetings and other subregional team meetings.
Contribute to the development of CIPE MENA webpage and database site
Qualifications and Requirements:
An undergraduate (junior standing or higher) or graduate student majoring in Political Science, Economics, Business, or International Relations preferred, but others are encouraged to apply.
Strong verbal and written communications skills in English. Arabic and French are valued but not required.
Familiarity with the MENA region’s economic and political environment.
Demonstrated interest in international issues related to democratic transitions and the role of market-oriented reform in economic and democratic development.
Ability to take initiative and work independently using sound judgement.
All CIPE Fall 2022 internships will be remote, though interns may come into the CIPE office if they choose. Interns who plan to visit the office will be asked to submit a vaccination card or a request for reasonable accommodation. This is a paid internship.
