The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) strengthens democracy around the world through private enterprise and market-oriented reform. CIPE is one of the four core institutes of the National Endowment for Democracy, and is an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Since 1983, CIPE has worked with business leaders, policymakers, and civil society to build the institutions vital to a democratic society. CIPE’s key program areas include Enterprise Ecosystems, Democratic Governance, Business Advocacy, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Anti-Corruption& Ethics and Trade.

Position: Program Associate, Center for Accountable Investment
Reports to: Director, Center for Accountable Investment
Scope: CIPE is seeking a full-time, non-exempt Washington D.C. based Program Associate. This position is responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support to CIPE's Center for Accountable Investment (CAI) department’s cross-regional portfolio on the themes of corrosive and constructive capital. The portfolio currently includes projects in Africa, Asia, Central Asia, Europe, and Latin America.   
Responsibilities:

  • Work in close collaboration with the CAI Director and regional team colleagues to support project deliverables and activities for the CAI portfolio, including on economic security, investment screening, corporate governance, and countering foreign malign influence topics; correspond via email and phone with program partners to track program progression. Support CAI Director on deliverables and activities of the Center.
  • Assist the Director in writing, reviewing, editing and preparing weekly and semi-annual reports, program proposals, articles and other documents for submission to donor agencies and CIPE internal and promotional use.
  • Create and maintain a variety of program, financial, correspondence and contract files, both on paper and electronically.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Director and regional team colleagues to ensure timely processing of payment requests, grant agreements and modifications, documents for signature, narrative and financial reports, etc.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking project reports, approvals, and payments.
  • Contribute to CAI’s communications efforts.
  • Coordinate international travel arrangements, conference planning, and local meeting logistics for CAI staff, consultants and program participants, including processing expense reports.
  • Collaborate with multiple CIPE departments to achieve programmatic goals, including Communications, Grants and Finance, Policy and Program Learning, and other regional teams.
  • Contribute to an organization-wide culture of innovation and high performance.
  • Adhere to appropriate office procedures, CIPE and donor organization policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required in Regional/Area Studies, International Relations, International Business, Economic Development, Economics, Finance, Political Science, Public Policy, or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of administrative office experience strongly preferred. Additional degrees/education will be accepted in place of work experience. Project management experience supporting international development programs preferred. Experience working with USAID/NED/DoS funded programs a plus.
  • Background in regional studies (e.g., Africa, China, EU, Eurasia, Japan, or Latin America), or international affairs with an emphasis on political and economic issues and/or democracy development programs in emerging markets preferred. Strong interest in countering malign authoritarian influence preferred.
  • Strong English writing and verbal skills required.
  • Event and travel planning experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to develop and monitor project budgets.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to take initiative to manage multiple, detail-oriented tasks simultaneously with limited supervision.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically working with MS-Office, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and partners in multiple time zones.
