Position: Program Coordinator, East Africa Regional Office

Reports to:Senior Program Manager, East Africa Regional Office

12 months contract with a possibility of extension

Scope: The Program Coordinator for the East Africa Regional Office is responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support for CIPE’s projects in East Africa. The position reports to the Senior Program Manager, East Africa Regional Office. This position is based in Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia with travel throughout the country and possibly throughout the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Work mainly with the Senior Program Manager and the Deputy Country Director, East Africa Regional Office and other CIPE staff (both in Ethiopia and in DC) to coordinate project management deliverables and activities for the Ethiopia and East Africa portfolio.
  • Support CIPE’s program intervention and local partners both technically and administratively in their respective regions, consider the following strategies:
  • Technical Support: Provide support for the program intervention on training and workshops on relevant skills, supply necessary technical knowledge and resources for partner organizations and establish knowledge-sharing platforms.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with documentation and compliance, support financial management and project planning, facilitate regular communication channels, and provide logistical assistance for events and meetings.
  • Implementation Strategies: Schedule regular check-ins, establish feedback mechanisms, tailor support to regional needs, and focus on capacity building through mentorship and development programs.
  • Correspond regularly with East Africa Regional Office team and Washington, DC Africa team.
  • Process and track documents for signature, narrative and financial reports, etc.
  • Communicate with grantees and prospective partners in East Africa on administrative and due diligence issues.
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, editing and preparing periodic reports, project proposals, articles, and other documents for submission to donor agencies and for promotional use by CIPE.
  • Handle international and local travel arrangements, events, and local meeting logistics.
  • Create and maintain program, correspondence, and contract files, both in paper form and electronically.
  • Handle general administration duties, including invoices, contracts, travel and logistics, organizing meetings and payment requests as needed.
  • Adhere to appropriate CIPE and donor policies and procedures.
  • Support the East Africa Regional team and Director as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related filed.
  • Working knowledge of Business Membership Organizations (BMOs) and Women Economic Empowerment (WEE).
  • Demonstrated interest in international affairs, with an emphasis on political and economic issues in East Africa.
  • At least two years of relevant work experience in similar equivalent position.
  • Fluency in professional written and spoken English, Amharic and Tigregna is required.
  • Strong writing abilities and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple, detail-oriented tasks simultaneously with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good financial acumen and ability to assist with project budgets
  • Proficiency in MS-Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
